Mermaid Mechanics

I digitally illustrated Mermaid Mechanics in Photoshop as a concept art piece. It showcases my skills as an illustrator and my techniques regarding the basic fundamentals of art, which include perspective, composition, lighting and colour.

Original Character – Ahri

I enjoy designing characters, and Ahri is an original character I created for “Dungeons & Dragons”, an imagination-based multiplayer interactive game.
I wanted to showcase the painterly rendering I utilized for this piece. I would love to eventually learn how to mix 3D with the more painterly textures that 2D can depict, much like the styles of existing shows and movies nowadays such as “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” or “Arcane”.

3D Character Froggy – Little Pip

The first character I modelled on Blender when I was comfortable enough navigating the program.
Followed the “Easy Froggy!” Tutorial by MAR on Youtube, while adding a few personal customizations on the frog design for myself.

3D Character Bunny – Minty Molly

Another 3D character I modelled following the tutorial “2D Drawing to 3D Model” by Eve Sculpts on Youtube. I added my own customizations and designs to the original bunny illustration they uploaded so that I could follow the tutorial while also being able to be more creatively independent.
Unlike the previous 3D model which used Eevee for rendering, I used Cycles to render Minty Molly.

Github Game Jam – Character Art
I have been a part of a few game jams and for this particular one, I wanted to showcase the process I went through for designing the ‘Player’ character. The character’s name is Suraci and they are a moth that goes through various platform maps to find their special source of ‘light’.
It was my first time animating a character in Photoshop. I found out that the process was fulfilling and that I enjoy being able to learn new skills.

Github Game Jam – Environment Design
For the same game jam mentioned above, I also designed the initial tutorial-level environment where the players learn how to navigate their characters.
Whether it is through character, environment or asset designs, I truly enjoy working on games with different people and learning 3D would only help to expand the skillsets and tools I have to create more games or work on even more interesting projects in the future.

Adventure Game Jam – Character Portraits
I illustrated 14 character portraits within the span of 2 weeks for the most recent game jam I entered. The characters’ backstories were designed by the writers of my team but they had given me creative freedom over the final designs for each character.
This jam was a learning experience for me, as it was truly one of the best teams I have ever had the chance to meet and this solidified my own aspirations to continue working within anything game-related and perhaps in the future, in the game industry itself.
I also hope that by entering BCIT, I am able to recreate some of these characters (or any future character designs that I may have) in 3D.
